Smart Root Cellar

Root Cellar

We decided that our little farm needed a root cellar to store our produce in.  For those unfamiliar with the term, a root cellar is an underground room that acts like a natural refrigerator, maintaining temperatures in the mid 30’s F in the winter and mid 50’s in the summer.

Love it, tho it bears remembering that root cellars only work as such where the ground temps are fairly low. In my region this would only be a dry-storage cellar, keeping at a fairly pleasant 70 to 75-ish, which is too high for root cellaring. In our warmer regions we need other contraptions like spring houses to get that nice refrigerator effect
