designed by Todd Theodore Fix of FIXd Architecture/Design, the house draws power from the sun and wind, with a wind tunnel effect that multiplies wind energy five fold and stores it in hydrogen fuel cells for later use.
Wind turbines that can generate 21.6KWh of electricity for your home, with 15 of these systems working together could produce all the energy a home needs for living off the grid.
Sick of working for the man? Done with society? Want to leave taxes, rules and your boss behind? Want to spend time with your family rather than your co-workers? Do you have the family that could show America how to start again? Do you have what it takes to leave the regular grind behind in search of a simpler, freer and more rewarding life? Then it’s time to get out of the rat race.
The makers of GOLD RUSH are looking for a family with big personalities who are ready for a big challenge. No gadgets, no junk food, no neighbours. Just land, space, fresh air and freedom. If you want to grab this chance to prove yourself then get in contact.
We are looking for families or couples, ideally with children between the ages of 10 and 17 to show that Americans still have what it takes to live from the land. Please send pictures or even video. Let us know why we should pick you and how great a show featuring you will be.

If you follow the tiny house movement, you may have heard about Blake’s Tiny House. The project is led by a team of four – Blake Dinkins, Lance Cayko, Alex Gore, and Sarah Schulz – who met at North Dakota University while pursuing master of architecture degrees. Their goal is to document the construction of the 128-square foot home from beginning to end.
Blake’s Tiny House is moving forward with the design shown here, which is in development. In terms of green features, the team envisions solar panels, an indoor planting garden, a water collection system, passive solar gain, and a transformer-style, fold-down deck.
That said, the design is still being finalized and the team is looking for community feedback. They’re also interested in talking with sponsors and will incorporate feedback and sponsor contributions throughout the process.
The tiny house has a footprint of 8″x16″ and the budget is a tight $4,500 – $6,500. Updates of the project will be posted on the website for Blake’s Tiny House and completion is planned for late summer, early fall 2011.

This moveable structure was built with new, high-quality materials in traditional and aesthetically-pleasing proportions. A Dream off the grid property in Southern Costa Rica, situated 5,000 ft. above sea level bordered next to the La Amistad Inter-frontier National Park on 3 separate tracts of land. It includes a ‘Chapel in the Clouds’ (shown in top picture) a remote 260 foot (80 meter) Waterfall joined with 100’s of smaller waterfalls providing the area with natural spring water. A simple pelton wheel/generator system is used to provide the 9 hand crafted structures on the property with electricity, along with the latest additions to the place are two natural firewood heated ‘Hot Tubs’ making this place ready for the chilly evenings. The land is situated inside of an Indian reserve and has been granted total right of private ownership by the Indian tribal council. And with a price tag of $1,800,000 this paradise is a dream for most and I now know what I would purchase if I ever won the lottery.

Dear Kindred Souls: We are officially asking for your help. We have ten acres, we have more Kale than Texas could eat, we have excellent sunshine and all around good weather, we have almost everything we could ask for–but not enough people to share it all with. We know they are out there, we know there are countless people out there looking to join exactly what we have. Too many people to count have said they are coming, and not one has made it yet.
Thanks to the power of the internet, resources for how to make the transition to a micro house, how to build your own, or how to live in one, are only a click away.
Where: Just south of Spring City, Utah, about75 minutes south of Provo.
Who lives there: Seven people have been staying on the property in trailers and tents and building the soon-to-be town’s first essential pieces: a community kitchen and partially underground greenhouses that will grow vegetables year-round. They also built Safe Haven’s signature structure, called the “dragon shed.” Its walls are a blend of rammed earth and corncobs, all enclosing a living tree, says co-founder Sterling Allan, who will be one of the site’s first homeowners. All 18 homes here will be constructed using “earth-friendly” techniques, he says.
